About Welgemoed Blinds: shading specified for a view home on the slope

Welgemoed Blinds measures, makes and fits window shading on the Tygerberg slopes and the suburbs below them. Every blind, venetian, awning and screen is built for one opening in one house, specified for how that room actually catches the sun and the wind. This page explains what the service is, where it goes and how a job runs.

A service built around the view

Welgemoed sits high on the northern slopes above Bellville, one of the Cape's established view suburbs, with big stands, mature oak gardens and manor-style homes built with picture windows to make the most of the outlook toward Table Mountain and the Boland peaks. That outlook is also the specification problem. The same glass that frames the view invites the low, direct sun of a Cape summer afternoon, and the same elevation that clears the rooftops below catches more wind than the streets down the hill. None of that is solved by a standard blind off the shelf.

So the range is wide on purpose. Blockout, sunscreen and day/night rollers, aluminium and timber venetians, cellular blinds, vertical and panel blinds, concealed and recessed blinds, skylight and shaped-window systems, motorisation, external venetians, roller shutters, folding-arm awnings and zip screens are all made to measure. View-preserving sunscreen is specified as standard on west-facing glass, child-safe control is standard on everything, and awnings and zip screens on elevated terraces are specified with a wind sensor as a default rather than an upsell.

Where the measure rounds go

Welgemoed first, and then the neighbouring northern suburbs that share its slope and its light. Plattekloof sits just across the N1 on its own ridge with the same Table Mountain promise and even more exposed glass on the newer builds. Durbanville brings established tree-lined family streets and newer estates and clusters toward the Winelands edge, with a genuinely large mix of window types. Kanonberg is the gated estate immediately next door, with an architectural committee to satisfy on anything visible from outside. The Durbanville Hills estates bring full houses of new windows that are specified once and fitted together.

Measure visits run in rounds across these slopes, so the diary usually books a week or two out, and the earlier you are in it the more say you have over the day. We are used to gated-estate visitor procedures, and for an estate build we can plan blind and roller shutter positions alongside the window schedule rather than after it.

How a job runs, in four honest steps

There is one route through a job and the first move is yours, by the enquiry form or the on-page chat. Tell us the rooms, the product interest and roughly when you would like it done, and say so if the house is still being built. After that one of our expert consultants will contact you shortly and a free in-home measure goes in the diary.

On site the consultant brings fabric and finish samples and holds them against your actual light. Every window is measured with a tape rather than estimated from a photograph; recess depth, handles, stays and bars are checked; the wind is read corner by corner on a terrace; and fabric, openness factor and control are chosen for how each room catches the sun. If a product is wrong for a room you will hear that first.

A written quote follows, with every window priced on its own and every option itemised, so the invoice holds nothing you have not already seen. Approve it and everything is manufactured to those sizes, then professionally installed, level and tested, with an operation demonstration before the team leaves. Lead times are confirmed in that written quote rather than guessed at the door.

What we do not do or claim

We do not quote from a phone photo or an online measuring tool, and we do not guess prices. The guide's ballpark gives a budget range; the real per-window figure comes out of the measure and arrives in writing, and lead times are confirmed in the same written quote. Our roller shutters are shading products for sun, heat and glare control on the outside of the glass; they are not security-rated. We also do not promise percentages nobody can back up: a cellular blind is genuinely more comfortable and easier on whatever heats or cools the room, and we leave the claim there.

Getting in touch

Use the enquiry form or the chat on this site, whichever suits you. Share the rooms you have in mind, what you are interested in and your suburb, and one of our expert consultants will contact you shortly to arrange your free in-home measure and a written per-window quote. The details you send are used only to arrange that consultation call-back and for no other purpose, as POPIA requires. If you would rather read first, the Slope & Sun Field Guide walks every wall and every product with the trade-offs stated both ways, and no sign-up is needed.
